Friends of the Library to Sponsor Second Annual Art Show and Lunch

On Sunday March 9th from 12 to 2 p.m. The Friends of the Library will sponsor their second annual Art Show and Lunch in the library gallery. Artists are invited to show and/or sell their art work. There is no fee to enter art work.  Artists are requested to enter no more than three pieces. All artwork must be ready to hang with a wire on the back and delivered to the library (402 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, PA ) no later than 10 a.m. on Saturday March 8th. Each artist may set his/her own price on each work at the time of registration. If the art sells, the library keeps 20% and the artist receives 80% of the selling price. Art work not sold the day of the show will remain on display for two weeks at which time the artist must return to the library to pick up unsold items.  Artists may take unsold art home the day of the show if they so desire. If you wish to enter the show or have further questions please call Diane Danielson, Library Director at 610-826-3424.  Tickets to attend the Art Show and Lunch are on sale for $5.00 each at the Library.


Friends of the Library Happenings

Friends of the Library elected the following new officers at the November 13th meeting: President, Barbara Clemmer, Vice-president, Kathy Augustine, and Secretary/Treasuree, Cathy Filoreto.
The Friends have selected the third Tuesday of the month for as many volunteers as possible to gather at the Library basement at 6:30 p.m. to organize and sort books and other items for the basement book sale. Everyone is welcome to come to help keep the sale looking neat and put new books on the shelves.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be
Tuesday April 8 at 7p.m. The Friends are always looking for new members, stop in the library to pick up a membership form or join online at www.palmertonarealibrary.com to find out opportunities to volunteer at the library.

St. Patty’s Easter Pi Day Party!

The Teen Advisory Group of the Library is sponsoring a “St. Patty’s Easter Pi Day” party on Friday, March 14 from 6 - 9 p.m. at the library. It is open to children ages 3 to 14 yrs. Admission is $3 per person (including parents). Tickets will be on sale at the library until March 12th. If you have attended previous Teen Group parties (Harry Potter and Halloween) you know there will be a lot of fun and games for all! Get your tickets and plan to attend this unique event!

Library Open On New Schedule

The Palmerton Area Library is now open three evenings a week. The new hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m to 8 p.m. On Thursdays and Fridays the hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday is now 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The conference room and gallery are available for use by nonprofit groups for meetings. Interested parties should call the library at 610-826-3424 for more information.

Third Monday Book Club
The book to be discussed at the Third Monday Book Club meeting on March 17 will be “Beet Queen” by Louise Erdrich. Several copies of the book are available at the library. The meeting is held from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m. Next month’s book selection will be “A Map of the World” by Jane Hamilton. This book was an Oprah Book Club selection. Copies of this book can also be found at the library. The book club is free, and everyone is welcome.

Two March Workshops: Winemaking and Identity Theft

Two free workshops will be offered by the Palmerton Area Library during the month of March.
On Tuesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. Experienced home winemakers will lead a presentation and discussion on wine-making. The audience will learn basic winemaking techniques, necessary and optional equipment and simple recipes for many types of wine such as whites, reds, rose’, sweet and dry.
On Tuesday March 11 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to learn how to protect yourself from identity theft. This workshop is for married couples, single persons, college students and/or employers. The audience will learn about forms of identity theft, laws that affect you, and ways to protect yourself and your business.

Mark Your Calendar:  Photography Show in April

The Palmerton Camera Club will again present a Photography Show at the Library on Sunday, April 27, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tickets to attend will be $5.00.  Plan to attend and view a fabulous selection from the photographer members of this local club.

Computer Classes for Senior Citizens Coming Again

Computer classes for Seniors are scheduled for April. There will be a selection of three classes, with each class having two sessions. Beginning Computers will be on April 3 and 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. Intro to the Internet is scheduled twice, April 5 and 12 at 2 p.m., And April 17 and 24 at 5 p.m. Word Processing will be taught on April 19 and April 26 at 2 p.m. The fee for each class (not sessions) is $10.00. National Library Week for 2008

National Library Week this year will be April 13 to 19, and the theme is “Join the Circle of Knowledge @ Your Library”. There will be another bookmark contest for kids in preschool through grade 12. The winning art work will be featured on our new bookmarks handed out at the check-out desk.

Log on to www.palmertonarealibrary.com with your computer to not only access the card catalog, but also renew books or put a hold on a popular book or DVD. You can also download free audio books, and read some creative writing excerpts from our own Teen Advisory Group! And...you can even make a contribution with your credit card to support your local library! Check it all out @ the library!
